There’s more to the town than Coal Mining and Rugby League.
There was also cotton and linen industries (notably sail making) as well as salt, lime and alkali pits, copper smelting and Greenalls brewers not to mention Beecham’s Pharmaceuticals. Today it is known for the world leading Pilkington’s the float and patterned rolled glass producer. Glass figures large in St Helens so a visit to the World of Glass is a must (entry charge applies).
